Business Insurance: Insuring Your Company Car at a Reasonable Rate

Just like in your normal life, your company's vehicle or vehicles needs to have commercial auto insurance.  That said, many times people overspend on their commercial auto policy because they fail to do and realize some simple facts.

First of all, even if you operate a home-based business, if you're using your personal vehicle for commercial reasons then you need a commercial insurance policy. In the event he has an accident while operating your home business, you could be liable for greater damages. By the way, this is also true for business contents insurance.  If you have a disaster in the part of the home that is officially used as a home office, any damage to the contents of that home office will not be covered by the homeowner’s policy.

Many times with insurance companies, they offer different bundled packages. For instance your liability insurance may give you a discount if you include it commercial car insurance with it.

The usefulness of the Internet in obtaining reasonable quotes cannot be overstated. It is recommended that you use the Internet to obtain online commercial auto insurance quotes. This will save you time calling all the different insurance companies. That said if you do call one, make sure that you call one that is an independent insurance agent as they have been known to cover 15 or more different companies.

If you have a choice to have a driver over 25 for under 25, you should definitely choose the driver who was older than 25 years old. Again, just like with your personal auto insurance, young drivers are penalized and have to pay higher premiums.

A last tip to get a good premium is to see what your current company's willing to do in regards of giving you a better rate so that you stay with them. The key is to do this after you are you know what the other rates are so that you will be in a better position to leverage the negotiations in your favor.

Business Insurance: Learning From Japans Catastrophe

The unfortunate current events in Japan have taught us many important lessons, and my thoughts and prayers go out to their people. One of those lessons is that you never know when tragedy is going to strike. Hopefully most people had flood insurance, and it would not surprise me if this coverage was a requirement being that Japan is so prone to flooding. Obtaining a business policy is something that every business should consider doing for the exact same reasons every person should have homeowners insurance that includes flood insurance.

Business insurance is a generic term to describe the many different types of business insurance which consist of business auto, workers comp, business property, and business liability insurance.

Many times businesses have no choice but to obtain business insurance for legal reasons or in many cases as a part of the requirements for the governing body of a particular business sector, but knowing what kind and how much to get can be a tricky situation as most businesses either have too little insurance or too much.

Some practical advice that a business owner can take before contacting an insurance agent is to educate themselves on what's available. Like sales in general, if you don't know what you want to get, than a salesperson will decide for you.  Often that is not in the best interest of the business owner. Second, once you know what's available he need to decide what's appropriate for your business. Third you need to know the value of all your possessions in regards to the business. This not only includes the price of items when they were new, known as the replacement cost, but also the cost of having to replace documents and records. It's often hard to gauge the cost of time, but if you're in a situation where you have to replace everything, that time may be more than you’d considered. Another hard to fathom necessity is to figure out what the cost would be to replace a building (building insurance) in case of a catastrophic event where you're building no longer existed.

It's hard to imagine that your building could be gone, but in Japan right now that is exactly the case. I invite you to continue reading this blog to learn more about business insurance.

What is Business Contents Insurance

Getting Business Contents Insurance may be one of the most important decisions you ever make, but what is it exactly?

Contents insurance is a special type of business insurance that protects the movable items in your business.  It is usually coupled with premises protection or business building insurance.  Moveable items in a business may include but are not limited to your desk and chair, other business furniture, your computers and laptops, your paper work, the information on your computers, and even the materials that are used to create the product or service you provide.

Protection and reimbursement is available for the following situations:
*In the event of a theft by an employee or outside entity
*If you have a fire that destroys your business
*If the smoke from a fire damages business items
*If a plane or flying object falls into the business and destroys property
*Water damage that happens as a result of some internal force such as a leaky faucet or broken pipe (as long as this problem happened suddenly…mold and other slow leak issues might be considered negligence by the owner)

It is important to note that not all water damage is covered by business contents insurance.  For instance, if a nearby lake or river were to over run its boundary’s and the business were flooded, then that damage would not be covered.

When deciding on which insurance to use, it is important to consider how much you can afford to pay in premiums.  In the case you are trying to save some money, some simple and good advice is that you should agree to pay your premium ahead of time if you can afford it.  Many insurers offer 15% discounts for this.  Another thing you can do is agree to pay as high a deductable as you can afford so that will offset your monthly premium.
